Looking at Patrizio’s works, one is drawn closer to them, as if swept along by a vortex of fragments, colours and energy; and it is there, in the single fragment, that the whole strength of the work is potentially found. Every portion, every single centimetre can be observed in its infinitely and imperceptibly small parts, and in its being infinitely large, as if all of a sudden the thin thread that now holds the parts together dissolved, and the energy within the work and within every atom of the universe carried the fragments like meteors through space.

Fragmentation, then, belongs not only to the figures, to the shadows or to what is left of them: it is the summariness, the instability and the susceptibility of everything that exists on our planet and in the universe. Each fragment is at once the instant that ends a life and the moment in which a life begins; it is instinct and reason.

The figures that emerge, the energy and the dynamism of the whole are the fruit of the human hand and of chance, which fragments and breaks lines, colours and tones, and which time and again make the viewer’s eye pause. Almost enchanted, the viewer ends up looking at the work tirelessly, in search of a form, a trace, a figure, but above all in search of an emotion, a sensation.

There is no background and no image, only figures and geometries that create and destroy themselves out of the material itself.

Smooth and matt surfaces create plays of light and texture and themselves build forms, profiles, silhouettes. Patrizio plays freely with colours, with whites and blacks to heighten them, until he makes the latter the protagonists of some of his works: there white becomes the bearer of a dazzling light that reveals and hides the brightest, most vivid shades, and black becomes magma that drags fire with it in its reds, oranges and yellows, running across the canvas where one part, now cold, solidifies while the other, still incandescent, glossy and bright, flows across it.

True explosions of colour and pyrotechnic effects light up his canvases, which speak of a world in which energy is everything and colours are its highest expression.

Patrizio’s works therefore occupy a space greater than their physical size: they require time and space to be conceived, understood, observed and admired. And while the light enhances the whole, the figures and profiles seem to dance silently in the universe, in that dynamic vortex that creates and destroys, composes and decomposes, that is both the part and the whole, that frightens and fascinates in its infinite power and in the fragility of the bonds between the single molecules of everything that exists.

Patrizio’s, then, is a painting vibrant with energy and enthusiasm for colour: the same enthusiasm the artist brings to life again in his works, entrusting them with the responsibility of expression while giving them a lightness and a freedom to be and to be interpreted.
